Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo

The Nanjing Hongshan Forest ZooChinese: 南京红山森林动物园)is a zoological park in Nanjing, the capital city of Jiangsu province, China.[1] Located on 168 Heyan Road in the north of the Nanjing city, it covers 1026 mu with a beautiful forest and many kinds of animals.[2]

History

Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo was founded in 1998. It is the combination of the former Xuanwu Lake Zoo and the Hongshan Park. The park dates back to 1928 when the Nationalist government in Nanjing Xuanwu Lake with birds, monkeys, bears and other animals on display outside.[3]

Present

There are many main show areas in the zoo. The zoo consists of Xiaohongshan bird region, Dahongshan beast region, Fangniushan herbivore and Primate animal region and amphibian and reptile hall. There are 280 kinds of rare species among the 3000 animals in the zoo. There are rare and precious animals in the world such as Asian elephant, giraffe, zebra, kangaroo, white tiger, panther, orangutan, mandrill, flamingo, macaw parrots, gold python and so on. The first degree protected species in our country here are panda, golden monkey and gibbon, red-crowned crane, northeast tiger, Yangze alligator and so on. People can see colorful and humorous animal performances in the zoo everyday.[4]
